Station 1 – Spirometry
– Set up and record on yourself. Recording must be over a decent amount of time + show a max inspiration + expiration.
– ‘Asphyxia’ reading loaded on LabChart: explain whats happening and why over time + work out respiratory frequency (but not asked to perform this on ourselves)
– Pick 2/4 upside-down cards ie: “Tidal Volume” and “Vital capacity” was picked – point and explain them on a printed reading

Station 2 – Patient interview
– Woman at 1 year post-op check up from breast cancer surgery

Station 3 – Clinical / Lab Skills
– Correct + safe procedure/disposal of ‘Glucopen’ use on fake hand
– Prepare a blood smear (remember glass slides = sharps disposal after, correct use of yellow-bag bin for gloves)
– Pick 2/4 upside-down cards ie: “Monocyte” and “leukocyte” was picked – point out on model + explain function

Station 4 – Microbiology
– Plate/streak unknown organism: Aseptic technique – correct flame, sterilise loop, working close to flame (no gloves but hand-gel provided)
– Identify organism:
given a completed sheet of characteristics for known organisms
given a MacConky agar plate of your unknown organism
given a motility-tube of your unknown organism
given a gram-stained picture of your unknown organism
Thus: Unknown (from above) was: Motile, grew on MacConky but didn’t ferment lactose, Gram – bacilli
Thus: Using sheet of characteristics of known organisms – correlated to a certain organism
